It’s not impossible to dress a printed dress and continue with tzniut! You know that colored dress that’s in your closet? Take it off and give some taste to life!

Why it works?

• The dress is divided with a belt, that breaks and gives a restart to the printing.
• The coat over neutralizes the colors of the dress. It could enhance if the coat would be beige, but the gray enhance the darker colors. In both cases it would be beautiful.
• The shoes are different, but the colors don’t conflict with the dress. Soft colors. ;)

People don’t have to loose their style to dress with tzniut.

Any transformation that people make on their body, clothes and also surgeries or make up, they are complements that influence the gesture and our perception. That is, we try to communicate ourselves  through clothes and for this are necessary some elements that complete our body. Then, we will complete our presentation.

Simple example: You are in a black-basic-dress and to give it your personality you dress a pretty necklace and put on your make up.

We’ve talked on being dressed to mean something for the others (text: “Communicating ourselves without a word“), that is our gesture, and now something important to notice is that the same clothes mean something to us also, that is our perception.

When the reaction about the black dress is positive, suppose people had a formal impression, not just this impression continues for others, but specially for you. So it is a re-affirmation process, you dress to give a impression of being formal, people think you are formal, and the black dress will be the formal clothe. ;) So you are acquiring a formal impression, it will be like that with almost all clothes and with your gesture also.

On the moment of choosing the clothes, it’s more important than think how you want other to see you, think about how you see yourself.

• Who you look like?

Choosing tzniut, is to look at itself and be ready to not be an object, is choosing a clothe that won’t point a false impression of you, instead will point who you really are: your attitudes.
Not your beauty either what should be your capacities (since you are formal with the black dress!), just you, what you really do.

Why we get dressed? Because we have aesthetic necessities.

No work is realized just because of the basic necessities, this is, all work has a satisfaction that comes from the connection with our ideas.

Example: We have to iron a shirt, our first motivation is to have a smooth shirt but in real we want to get beautiful. That action (pass the shirt) is connected to our idea (to stay pretty).

Example 2: A mother has to cook, the first motivation is to feed its children, but in real she wants them to be healthy and like her food. That action (cook) is connected to the idea (be healthy and like her food).

Aesthetic is a psychological necessity. So when we create our clothes for the day, the details have a “intention” beyond the act of decorating itself, this is the idea, the communication through clothes.

The fact of being dressed and communicating, what is aesthetic, lets a playful way of life, where it’s possible to interpret in agreement with the place we are. As an actor with his scene.

The point is, what’s the idea, the intention when the clothe is dressed? Do you know yours?

Once girls are dressed with tzniut the intention is to demonstrate that they are not an object, it is a person with qualities. Covering the body is to communicate from the outward who is inward.

The light can deform the color.

This Parasha says somethings about tzniut. Simply that a women may not put a men’s suit and vice versa. The Torah wishes us to respect and uphold the distinction G-d made between the sexes, thus prevents immorality and promiscuity.

Curiosity: According to the Midrash, weapons are considered articles pertaining to men, therefore, women are forbidden to carry them.

If communication has no words, wich tools are used to make a speech?

We saw that through the body we can express our thoughts, receive and create new sensations. In fact the body becomes a support for our gestures and clearly, for our clothes. When we join both, gestures+clothes, we gain a style, that is expressed through colors, textures, forms, etc.

Independently if the reason we dress is physical necessities, culture construction or aesthetic, one dresses and behaves since experiences that they had. Not only experiences define our preferences, experiences define the clothes we are going to wear, how we are going to speak or to walk, that is, all things we like is because we had good experiences and the opposite also, if we didn’t had good experiences we won’t like.

Example 1: Somebody suggested you to dress a blazer for that interview you have, you dressed. You felt beautiful, formal and confident, the interview was a success and your are contracted. Probably you will like blazers and use them to special occasions.

Example 2: You dressed a beautiful orange dress to the party, nobody liked it since the beginning of the event and you felt alone all the time, you will probably be distrustful to use a orange dress again.

So when we dress and behave, we want to mean something, that is, a feeling we had that we want to express and want to have again.

When we communicate ourselves we want  everybody to understand us, what can be difficult in body language (that’s what we are talking about), because each one has different experiences, and clothes or behavior means something different for each one.

When tzniut asks to be discreet it’s saying: “don’t call attention to how you seem instead of what you do“. With tzniut it’s not so clear for others to see what I support, so the focus goes to who are you (we have talked this before)? That is because tzniut doesn’t let you expose itself and take the risk of being confused its appearance with who are you.

So communicating ourselves without a word is easier when we dress with tzniut.

Since April 2nd at the G20 summit in London I’m keeping this image. It’s a long time but elegance doesn’t change, just improves. ;)

What the suits of first ladies have in common?
All are dressing skirts below the knees and blazers with long sleeves, independently of the color. It’s curious to think that they are dressed in accordance to tzniut lengths and this raises a question:

• “Are they elegant because they are dressing skirts and blazers or because they must be elegant they are dressed with this lengths of clothes?”

In this case, the order of the factors does not modify the result, because they are chic!

The point is that tzniut is being discreet and when somebody doesn’t dress tight clothes the attention goes to who the person is and not to how the person seems.

Of course, with tzniut, you will always be adjusted to all occasion, not vulgar, not showy, simply perfect and elegant.

Why we get dressed? Because the body has physical necessities.

The life that we have implies in a different lifestyle for each one, when we look at great length, but generally, we are all against same things. It means, the work or studies, car or bus to arrive at the places, if it’s day or night and the best example: the weather.

The last text was about what would be best adjusted for each situation, that is, the best clothes for work. This is culture. Now the topic is about what is necessary for the body to get daily survival, that is, physical necessities.

So, with the best example it’s easy to understand: the weather. If it’s very cold, suppose -30 degrees :-P, never ever somebody will go out with a t-shirt. But it doesn’t need this cold to understand that the body needs protection. If there is a travel where there are rocks and snakes, probably we won’t go hehe, or, yes we will go and will dress the more closed shoes existing in the world!

If the clothes satisfies our physical function, the garment is a good product and has his fulfilled aim. Clothes are nothing out of body, so when it is a satisfactory product for our necessities, we buy (although there are other reasons to buy a clothe that we will see later).

When we need to buy some clothes, it is not possible to forget the requirements, our necessities. If you need skirts with tzniut (that is 5 fingers below the knees), don’t buy skirts 3 fingers below the knees, because in the end you are not going to use.

• Make a list with the requirements, that is, which are the circumstances of the occasion that you will be using the clothes. (weather, transport, etc)
• and go with a good and sincere friend.

Today has two special occasions:

• Rosh Chodesh (First day of the month) Elul
• Shabat, since it’s Friday!

In special occasions, it’s a costume to dress specially beautifully. Here goes a special picture, that all girl I know would ask: “Which blouse must be used with this colored skirt?”

It’s possible to notice that the color of the blouse is not any color of the skirt, correct? This is what makes the look possible, otherwise, it seems very much “matched” or worse, it calls attention for only one color.

It’s possible to use white or black, but it’s also going to call very much attention to the skirt. So instead of a strong purple, it’s possible to use weak colors or baby colors, in this case, it’s possible to use any color since all the colors of the skirt are strong.

All this is valid to the hat - or the kissui (covering for head/hair of married women). Choose a different color of the skirt or a weak one.

The shoes? Choose a neutral color. The girl is using beige, but it could be white, black, or gray. Something very neutral.

Why we get dressed? First reason of all, is culture.

The body is the way that the thoughts are expressed, that is, it’s possible to feel, see and enjoy different experiences through the body and create them also, for example, speaking, acting and interacting.

This whole idea is about expressing thoughts to acts and to live as human beings.

So, when transformations are worked over the body, they can be,

• necessary like surgeries or treatments
• desired like piercings or make up

these are the first steps to construct culture.

Example: When the baby is a girl, the room is pink, when it’s a boy the room is blue. The child has no choice, and it’s already placed into culture.

Example 2: Indians have a different culture, not what would be called “fashion” (although it is), they paint their face, and this painting means something. Since they had not been born thus, they are constructing their culture.

What is your content, what’s your package?

Since we don’t walk completely naked (as we were born), we are normally using desired transformations - that is everything that improves our appearance, so when choosing clothes, colors, whatever it is, we are affirming a culture.

When girls dress with tzniut, they are affirming the jewish culture. They are choosing skirts and blouses with long sleeves and through this they say they believe the Torah .

When you are choosing your clothes (or acts) you have the power to affirm something you believe, want it or not. Do you believe what you affirming?
